4ix6 League - Season 12

1846

4-player
The father. The tournament that lead to the creation of this site. It is a recurring league with 4 games in groups of 7 players, with a new season starting on the beginning of every even month.

The Game

We'll play 1846 on 18xx.games with 4 players. You can find the official rules of the game here. Starting on Season 6 we're using the 2nd edition private companies.

All games should run to the end. You get a reward for every $ you can get, so dropping out is the ultimate worst move possible. Besides netting you 0 points we will ask you not to join further editions.

The implementation on 18xx.games allows for many things that just can't be done at the table. Multiple undo's, buying trains/privates from other companies for whatever price, and so on, follow common sense etiquette, no undo's after an opponent already made a move.

If there is a bug in the implementation the rules as written should be followed, and the bug solved with undo's if need be. Every player should have an opportunity to see the issue, aka, taking a turn. After that it's up for everyone to agree to the undo's.

On the other hand, sometimes rules are ambiguous and may even change depending on edition. Unless stated otherwise, we'll follow the decisions taken by the 18xx.games devs.

Playing speed

Our goal is to have each player make on average 3-4 moves/day, with 1 move/day being the absolute minimum. This means checking game states more than once per day and that turning on email/Discord/Slack notifications is highly recommended. If it's been your turn for more than 24 hours, the organizers reserve the right to do a "neutral" move in your behalf.

Please join the Discord server for easier communication with everyone.

The league

This structure was very influenced by the Terra Mystica tournament.

Structure

The league will take place in seasons. In each season all the games will be posted and created at the same time. The results of a season determine the groups and matches of the following season.

The league consists of divisions and each division contains a number of groups. There is one group in the first division and then the number of groups in a division doubles for each division. The exception to this is Season 0, which only has a single division.

The winner of each group will go up one division, and the bottom 2 will go down. Between seasons there may be side events which can give participating players a bump to fill open spots. For details on how we'll handle drop outs, new players, and returning players, please refer to TM tournament's website.

Matchmaking

Each group has seven players, and seven 4-player games are played. This means that each player will be in four simultaneous games. Some of the bottom groups may contain one extra player, if the number of signed up players for a season is not square.

Every player in a group will be in the same game as every other player exactly twice.

Scoring

On Season 0 we used a different scoring: Each game awards 100 points. Each players gets a share equal to his share (%) of total player value at end game

Most players found that this scoring had some pitfalls and from Season 1 onwards the scoring method was changed.

Each player will get a number of points equal to the percentage of the winner's score. Then the winner gets a bonus of 24 points, the 2nd place gets 12 extra points and the 3rd adds 4 points to their score.

Talking and deal making

Making deals in game is allowed, and at certain times, encouraged. However, no deal is binding and promises are worth nothing until acted upon. Any discussion must be held in the game chat, no communication elsewhere (no private discussions) and no-one is forced to participate in deal making. It is perfectly fine to stay entirely silent throughout your games.

Blacklisting

It is not allowed to control more than one player/account in the tournament. Doing so will lead to exclusion from the tournament.

The game speed is there so we have a possibility to have finished games at season's end. If the players in a group feel that another player is consistently playing more slowly then expect, they should talk with that player. If after several attempts to try to communicate with this player they keep their pace and if they are slowing down the tournament, we may recommend this player does not sign up for the following season.

Harassment will not be tolerated. Sometimes games get heated and discussions escalate. This is ok, we are all humans. But if someone tells you that they are feeling uncomfortable with your behaviour, we expect you to try to comply. Maybe you should take a walk and get away from the computer for a little while. It feels good. If a player is constantly asked by others to moderate their words and the player doesn't try to address the issue, this player may be blacklisted.
